Yikes! Glad No One Was Standing Underneath!

I can't believe I never took a picture of my beautiful chandelier in the foyer.  It has been hanging for approximately 11 years, and decided to come down.  This actually happened last spring, around May, and we have been dealing with repairs, insurance claims, and such since then.  The center pole was embedded in the floor, all the way through the sub-floor, and was not coming out.  We cleaned up all the glass, took it all apart, cut the electrical parts off, and dealt with the pole sticking out of the floor all summer.  Around September, we decided we'd better do something about it.  So we had the floor people out, and decided to re-finish all the wood floors, and install black granite in the foyer.

A new chandelier was ordered.  A painter was brought in, and we decided to paint the banister as well as the walls.  Our foyer is 18' high, so this is not an easy job.

We moved out of the house for two weeks, and when I say we moved out, I mean we moved out.  Movers came in and packed everything in boxes, and loaded every piece of furniture on our first floor onto their trucks and took it to storage for two weeks.  Luckily, I didn't have to pack up the cabinets in the kitchen.

The floors are all done now, and everything was unpacked, Christmas came and went and still no chandelier.  Then it came in.  Broken.  So we are back to square one.  The painter should be coming soon, and hopefully everything will be back to normal by spring.  Keep your fingers crossed.  I will post the "after" pictures when everything is finished!

  1. Oh my goodness! That's terrible and scary to think how it could've hurt someone. I hope you can get another light soon. I can't believe you moved out for the updates like that but I'm sure it was the best way to get the job done in the nicest way. Can't wait to see it all done!

    1. Hey Liz, thank you, yes we were fortunate that no one was hurt. It was a pretty loud crash. I was hoping that the chandelier would be in this week, but with this storm and snow, who knows?? Keep your fingers crossed and pray for Spring!! Take care!

  3. I just audibly gasped when I opened my email and saw that beautiful specimen splayed out all over the floor like that! What a mess! And what a danger zone!!! I know you are just counting your lucky stars that no one was injured. It's bad enough that you've had to move out, endure the wait of repairs, endure the discovery of yet another wait because the new one arrived broken...it's been a nightmare for you guys!!!

Like Liz, I'm anxious to see the new and more sound end to it all!!! Happy Sunday!

    1. Hey Alycia, it's just one of those things that happen, yes we were so glad no one was hurt. Sounded like a car had crashed into our house ha! Just gives me a good reason to spruce things up a bit! Hope you are doing ok and staying warm. We are teased with a spring-like day, and then freezing again. Snowing here like crazy today! Stay warm and think spring!!

  4. Very, very scary - thank goodness no one was injured. Can't wait to see how the floors turn out. I installed black granite in my foyer and now am trying to decide on a color to paint the inside of the front door - it's woodtone right now, but am toying with either white, gray or pale aqua.

  5. Yikes! I've never heard of that happening!!! Did you ever find out the cause? Thank goodness no one was in the foyer! Were you home at the time? If you were that must have been an awful fright! If I walked in on it I think I would have called the police, just to make sure no one was in the home! Wow!
